What We Grow

We typically grow a few varieties of all the items listed - and occasionally a few surprises thrown in! Our produce availability varies from week to week.

garlic

You can use it to ward off vampires, but it’s much better when consumed. We grow 6 varieties of Russian garlic. Each has different characteristics in terms of flavor and ‘heat’. The varieties are: Bogatyr, Chesnock, Duganski, Legacy, Pskem. Orders are generally composed of a mixture of what we have available. We also grow elephant garlic! A typical bulb will range from 1/2 to 1lb. The flavor is typically milder than Russian garlic.

scapes

Want an early taste of this year’s garlic harvest? Each bulb produces a scape. Scapes can be used in salads and are delicious stir fried. The scapes can also be pickled or made into pesto. Scapes are available in a short 3-4 week window in June with a limited supply available.

Are you looking at combining two amazing flavors? Garlic and salt are a tasty combination. We sell garlic scape salt and garlic salt, all made at the farm. Use these salts to season everything from meat, poultry, fish and vegetables - or even in your morning omelette or avocado toast!

carrots

Looking for a great source of vitamin A? We grow the scarlet nantes variety. This carrot is long, slender and very flavorful.

beets

Anyone who’s reluctant to try beets should start with our Detroit Red variety. They are super sweet and delicious when roasted, or used for juicing. We also grow a variety of colored beets.

potatoes

Nothing tastes better than fresh potatoes that you dig out of the ground. Potatoes are not all the same and each type has a different starch content. Potatoes can be starchy or waxy; these characteristics will dictate the way they should be cooked. We always grow at least 4 different varieties. In the past we have grown Bintje, Caribe, Red, Russets, and Yukon Gold.

leafy greens

Trying to get your kids to eat a salad? Each year we grow several varieties of lettuce, kale and swiss chard. The lettuce is a mixture of different types and colors. The swiss chard also comes in sevarl colors and our two varieties of kale are delicious in salads, hot dishes or a green smoothie.

squash

Most of what we grow is classified as winter squash. What that means is if you leave it in a cool place and forget about it, the squash will still be good months later. We offer at least 4 different varieties of squash. In the past, we have grown Acorn, Buttercup, Butternut, Patty Pan, and Spaghetti Squash. We also grow zucchini which can be disguised as chocolate zucchini bread to entice your kids to eat more veggies!

tomatoes

Is it a fruit or a vegetable? Doesn’t matter when they’re delicious! We typically grow a minimum of 16 different varieties of tomatoes, many of them are heirlooms. Tomatoes fall into one of three groups: cherry, plum, slicing, tomatoes. We also have a few low acid type for those who love tomatoes but have an issue with the acidity. Tell us what you want to do with the tomato and we can recommend the best type for you.

onions

Onions are not all alike. Some are better cooked, some are better eaten raw. We offer at least 4 varieties of onions each year. In the past we have grown yellow, red, Spanish, Walla Walla, Cippolini and shallots. Never heard of a Cippolini onion? Come ask us about it.

cabbage

Do you love cabbage rolls? Remember how difficult it is to separate the leaves? We grow the Taiwanese flat cabbage which is great for cabbage rolls due to the ease of which you can separate the leaves. For those who prefer to roll their cabbage round their counter, we also offer the traditional green cabbage - perfect for summer coleslaw.

fruits

Need some sweetness in your life? We grow apples, pears, Asian pears, strawberries and blueberries.

leafy Asian vegetables

Can’t find fresh Chinese leafy greens in the supermarket? Check out our selections of Asian veggies right on the farm! From early spring to late summer, we grow Gai Lan, Pea shoots, Yau Choy also some more obscure greens such as chrysanthemum greens (Tóng hāo) and red amaranth greens. Those are tender and fresh and perfect for a quick stir-fry or simply putting in a soup.

Asian cabbages

Siu choi, bok choi - welcome to the world of Asian cabbages. There is no doubt Chinese Napa cabbages and Sui Cai are the top favorites from summer to fall! They offer a mild sweet flavor and crunchy tase, commonly used to make the Korean pickle “ Kim Chee”. Those cabbages are incredibly low in calorie and packed with essential vitamins. Use them in your salads or stir-fries and also to wrap other food.

daikon

A turnip perfect for pickling, adding to stews or making a traditional turnip cake that you can get at any dim sum restaurant.
